This traditional full-cut square pattern shirt was also known as a fatigue shirt; "fatigue shirt" and "travel shirt" both being terms indicating a shirt meant to be worn during strenous physical activity. These shirts were not overshirts, so they still needed to be worn under a vest or an overshirt of some kind in mixed company. The lifespan of this particular style reached its peak from 1850 and 1875, and had completely been replaced by the semi-fitted "French Style" shirt by 1880. This shirt has an attached collar, and features hand sewn horn buttons and hand bound button holes. The sleeve is also gusseted just as were period shirts (we're the only guys that do that). Notice the long, mid-thigh length of the shirt (we're the only guys the do that, too). Walton & Taylor is the only manufacturer going to the extra expense and effort of making shirts to the correct 19th century patterns. This isn't a modern "interpretation" of a period shirt like you're used to seeing elsewhere; it's the real deal. Our shirts are available in a variety of historically correct fabrics, colors, and patterns.*
